(k) stand for kane (man)
(w) stand for wahine (woman)
these are Hawaiian genealogies and carry the "Hawaiian abbreviatons"

Subject: [HAWAII] Question about genealogy chart
Hi Everyone,
I came across a site about Hawaiian Royalty, and there was some type of
genealogy chart on the site. I do not understand what some of the symbols
(?)
mean. For example:
LILOA (k) m. Akahi-a-Kuleana (w)
I know that the m. = married, what does the (k) and the (w) mean? Do they
mean:
(k) = man / kanaka
(w) = woman / wahine
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
