Subject: Help - Too Many Discrepancies

I need some help (or maybe I am just ranting in frustration ?). I am trying to find information about my Grandfather, David KAHANA, and I am coming up with way too many discrepancies for his birthdate:
1 - From Civil Service (Merchant Marine) papers he list his birthdate as: 26 February 1888 (born in the Ka'u District on the Island of Hawai'i).
2 - On his headstone date of birth is listed: 1888
3 - 1910 Census for Hawai'i (not 100% sure this is him): 16 years old - which puts birthdate at 1894
4 - My Mothers birth certificate (1937) lists his age as 37 years old - which puts his birthdate at 1900
5 - Cemetery Record lists his age at death as 58 years old - which puts his birthdate at 1895
6 - His death certificate lists his birthdate as 26 February 1894 - which would match the cemetery record.
I have sent to the Department of Health for his birth certificate (in April) using the 26 February 1888 date and I called them last week (they said they were still working on it). I used the 1888 date because HE filled out the Civil Service papers, so I assumed this was the correct date. Now I am not so sure.
Any suggestions on how to proceed from here?
