Subject: [HECKMAN] Legend Of The HECKMAN Brothers Of Eastern PA
Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2007 01:59:53 +0000

Hello Cousins!

D. R. Heckman and his brothers wrote nearly 100 years ago of a HECKMAN
family legend, that in the mid-1700s several HECKMAN brothers came to
America - primarily eastern PA - and headed in various directions:

?There is a tradition among the Heckman family of Franklin County, PA,
that the ancestry of the Heckmans of Pennsylvania is traceable to
several Heckman brothers who emigrated to this country from Germany,
scattering widely on their arrival here and settling in localities
distant from each other, where each established separate family
branches from which sprang the various Heckman families of today.?

My research indicates that there may be some truth to this legend, and
that the descendants sometimes became known as HICKMAN (particularly
in the South).

Over the next several weeks, I will be sharing this research in a
series of posts to the HECKMAN rootsweb list. [To join HECKMAN-L,

whatever you know about the HECKMAN family and this legend.

Thanks, and best wishes for the New Year,
Jeff Heckman
