Subject: [Hedges] Long Island Slavery

I need information on slavery in the Long Island area between 1640 and
1750. If you have any Long Island references books or sources that you could
check for anything remotely connected to this topic and email it to me, I
would be most grateful.
I got started on this quest by reading about slavery on Long Island on
the Long Island History site presented by Newsday. [I have contacted them
and am awaiting a reply.]
Although I am not a proponent of slavery, the article tweaked my
curiosity. Where the settlers of this period wealthy enough to afford
slaves? Where did they acquire the slaves? Where did the slaves live? A
multitude of unanswered questions lie about.
