As in all names the Hedrick name has undergone several spellings and
variations. Among the most commonly found are Hedrick, Headrick,
Hedrich, Hetrick, Heydrich, and even Heydrig. Often emigrating families
had their names written down by someone who didn't ask the correct
spelling but just spelled it the way it sounded to the writer.
Sometimes the emigrant himself wanted his name spelled in a way common
to the country to which he was attaching himself.

Notes for ADAM HEYDERICK:
Adam served in the Salisbury District Militia and was a founder of
Pilgrim Church. [Ross' "Younts and Kepley Families] "Pilgrim Church is
one of the oldest continuous churches in North Carolina and is thought
to have been established about 1757. The site for the church was
selected by men from the Pennsylvania German, or Dutch, as they were
called, who moved into what was then Rowan County, about 1757. This
land was an ungranted tract lying between Phillip Sowers and Valentine
Leonard near to Abbotts and Leonards Creeks, in the eastern section of
the county. The first house of worship was a brush arbor, but between
1757 and 1764 a log structure was erected on the site. On 17 December
1792 a deed was entered for a wedge shaped piece of land containing 86
acres. The Reformed and Lutherans used the Church House jointly from
1787 to 1821, when the Lutherans split off, but they continued to use
the same property until 1903."
In The Genealogical Journal of Davidson Co., North Carolina, is a
partial list of the head of households who were original members of
Pilgrim Church. The original spelling is given followed by today's
Adam Hetrich. . . Adam Hedrick
Wilhellm Janus . . . William Younce or Younts
Jorg Heeke. . . George Hege
Johann Heinrich Door. . . John Henry Darr
John Peder Lapp. . . John Peter Lopp
In Pilgrim's cemetery are many pierced, baroque tombstones, handmade,
and they show a unique form of German folk art.
The Inscription on Adam's tombstone reads: A.H. 1815 Adam Hedrick was
born in Pennsylvania in Lancaster County, in the year 1741, on October
12. His parents were Peter Hedrick and his christian wife, Milla. Adam
Hedrick died in the year, 1815, on the day of March 16. At the top of
the stone the epitaph reads: "How good is my body after the endured
pain. How good will my soul rest in the happiness of heaven."
