Nieves Hernandez was the son of Paz and Baleria Hernandez. He had numerous siblings and was the oldest son. He served in the US Army Air Corp and was a side gunner on a B-24-D Bomber named the Snoop Droop. The Snoop Droop was shot down in battle over the Pacific and Nieves and his crew were able to bail out and after floating in the ocean were picked up by an Australian trawler. He won several medals and a purple heart for his actions and injuries. Nieves was married twice. First to Delfina Santos of National City, Calif. and second to Ana Perez of Tijuana, Mexico. His oldest child is Maria Elena Hernandez-McDonald of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Second child is Gloria Ann Johnson of Fallbrook, Calif. and Third is Elizabeth Hernandez of San Diego, CA. He had 5 grandchildren and 1 grand-child at the time of his death. He now has 3 additional grandchildren.
Nieves Hernandez is buried at the Veteren's Cemetary in Riverside, Calif. Rest in Peace, Dad!
