Hello List members,
I have just confirmed relations with a Hess cousin in France. We are
fitting the pieces of the puzzle together & need more information on the
American branch of this family. Here is what we know so far...

Jakob Hess was born March 1, 1868 in Wald, Canton Zurich, Switzerland. Jakob
married Ida Bodmer born May 28, 1868 also in Wald. They were married on May
29, 1888. Their first two sons died in infancy. Then they had my great
grandfather Heinrich Walter Hess born in Wald on January 21, 1892. ( He went
by the name of Walter). Jakob & Ida immigrated to the US sometime in 1892
along with their infant son Walter. I believe they settled in Staten Island
NY(this has not yet been confirmed, but it was definitely NY)

My Grandmother left notes saying that Jakob & Ida had 3 other children in the
US. She said their names were Henry(Heinrich?), Hilda, & Martha. My French
cousins Grandmother believes they had a child named Emma. We have not yet
been able to confirm any of this information & know nothing more about these
supposed children. If any or all of them did exist they would have been born
sometime after 1892 & possibly into the beginning of the 1900's.

The only other information I have is that Walter Married Edna Murray(b. July
19, 1895). Edna was from Staten Island, NY. Walter & Edna had 2 children
named Clemens Walter Hess (My grandfather) born December 24, 1913 and Muriel
Hess born July 19, 1918. Clemens & Muriel were born in North Bergen, NJ.
The family at this point lived in Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ. When they
moved form NY to NJ is unknown, but was obviously prior to 1913.

If any thing here means something to anyone please contact me. No matter how
small it may seem. When I first connected with my French Hess cousin we had
some information that agreed & some that didn't. After further research he
received documentation from Switzerland that confirmed we were descendants
from the same family. So please if you feel you may have something no matter
how slight it is contact me & we will work together to try to sort through it.
Thank You,
Melissa
