Hi there - yes I can help.

Thomas Hewson (b;1810 d;1895) married Ann Bowes (b: 1812 d: 1860) in Dec 1831. Children were; Edwin 1835 - 1895 / Thomas 1838 - / Charles 1840 - 1900 / Frederick 1841 - / Septimus 1844 / Emily 1848 / Clara 1849

My family is related to Charles Hewson.

At the time of his birth, Charles and the family lived at '7 North Church Side' in Hull, a block from the Holy Trinity Church where "thousands of Hewson's had been and would continue to be married". It appears that Thomas had been the sexton of the Holy Trinity Church since the late 1830's.

By 1851 the eldest son Edwin has left home and working as an apprentice draper but the other 6 children still live at home at 7 North Church Side.

Father, Thomas is still listed as employed as a 'Sexton' and from the 1861 Census, it confirms he was employed at the 'Holy Trinity Church'.

By 1861 his sister-in-law Rachel is employed as house keeper at 7 North Church Side after the death of his wife Ann in September 1860.

At the 1871 Census, Thomas Hewson had travelled to Croydon, London and was in attendance at the Masonic Institute for what period it is unknown but it appears he may have at some time joined the Masons perhaps after the death of his wife?

I can not confirm at the moment how long he was a freemason. An interesting combination with his occupation !

With regards to Thomas's parents, from his Baptism record his parents are listed as William Hewson (b; 1790 d; abt 1852) and Phoebe (unknown) (b 1793 d; ??)

Am still working on these two.

Trust this assists ?

In case you wish to continue corresponding, am on

cheers

Simon Edwards
