Subject: looking for Isaac HIBEL; found wrong Itzig IBLE - ?

Have been trying to find immigration info on my GGGF Isaac/Isidore HIBEL
(from Poland/Austria/Galicia) for some time. He lived in NY once he
came over. 1900 census (HIBEL, Isaac) says he was 40, married 18 years
(ie. since 1882 or so) and came over in 1896. 1910 census (HIFEL, Isac)
says he was 50 and came over in 1896. Death certificate (NY - HIBBEL,
Isaac, 1935) says he was in the country for 42 years, ie. 1893 or so.
My GGGPs lived in or near Lvov/Lemberg. GP was a tailor, at least in NY.


In the Ellis Island records, I'd found a family of Beile and Leib and
Zlate IBEL (looks more like YBEL to me) who definitely came over
together in April 1895 and are all the right age to be my GGM
Laura/Zlotte, her brother Louis, and their mom Beila/Beyla HIBEL -
Beila/Beyla being my GGGM Bessie, Isaac's wife. No sign of GGGF in
Ellis Island.


Tried the newly online Castle Garden search at
http://www.castlegarden.org/ (free for do-it-yourself spelling variants;
very expensive for advanced searches). Found no HIBEL, HIBEL, IBEL,
YBEL, HIFEL, HIBER (the 1920 census spelling), HIBBEL, HIBEEL, HIBBLE,
HIBBL, HIBL, HUBEL, HUEBEL, HEUBEL, HUBL, HEBLE, HEBL who seemed vaguely
close. There are a billion HEBELs - couldn't go through them all.
There was one IBLE who was at least named Itzig and from Poland (Libau,
even!), but he came over much earlier than expected and was much younger
than he should have been (mine should have been born around 1860; this
one was apparently born around 1875). Unless there's a typo at Castle
Garden and this guy's manifest really says he's in his late 20s or early
30s, he couldn't be mine.

By using Castle Garden's first name only search, I tried "Itzig". Found
one from Austria with a similar name, but he doesn't look like mine
either (though the age is at least closer).
