Higginson was a Puritan Minister and one of the leading persecutors in
the Salem Witch Trials. He conducted examinations of the accused,
witnessed confessions, warrants for arrest, and officiated at
excommunications and executions. His daughter, Ann Dolliver was accused

Sellettes, Stoke Abbott, Dor., Eng.. He signed a will on 20 Mar 1632.7
He died on 13 Apr 1633 in Stoke Abbott, Dor., Eng.. He was buried on 13
Apr 1633 in Stoke Abbott, Dor., Eng.. he was yeoman in Sellettes, Stoke
Abbott, Dor., Eng..7 Robert was the owner of Sellietes Farm at the very
far western side of the village. On the first Ordinance Map (1801) the
farm area was marked as "Selliott's" and is now known as "Swillett's
Farm". Over the years, Roman artifacts and relics have been uncovered
in the area as a Roman fort manned by the Augusta Legion occupied it.

Robert appeared to be extremely prosperous, as he left over three
hundred and forty pounds in currency not counting the residue of his
estate. His will was signed on 20 March 1632 and was proven on 27 May

born in , Dorset, Eng.. The Elwell home in England is still standing

1980. Believed to have been in the family for 100 years. The name is
Celtic and means 'healing spring'. There is a large spring on the
property. Robert came to colonies on the "Recovery of London" about
1633. 1 Sep 1634 purchased land in Dorchester, MA. Made freeman of MA
12 May 1640. Moved to Salem 8 Jun 1640. Bought land in Gloucester April
1642 but did not move there until 1643. In 1648 elected a selectman.
Also served as court commissioner at Gloucester and in 1664 was a member
of the committee to erect a new meeting house. Robert ELWELL and Joanne
DOLLIVER were married in 1638.
