I am trying to find out more on the HILLS of North Carolina. Here is my
ancestor for you to look over and see if there is a connection to your line
or if you know of this family.

Thank you

Vivian J. Worhtington

William Hill (1799 NC--1883 GA) was a son of Charles (Jul 17, 1771 VA--Aug
13, 1830 Rutherford Co.) and Catherine (Jan 10, 1774 VA--Jun 12, 1830
Rutherford Co.) (Sorrells) Hills; this family lived in the Mountain Creek
area of Rutherford County, 2 1/2 miles from Rutherfordton on the Morganton
road. William had an uncle, Zadock Hill, who moved to Bracken Co., Kentucky
c1805 and died ca. 1840; one of his aunts, Nancy, m. Walter Sorrells, and it
is thought that another, Olive, m. Ephram Jones in 1795. Another aunt may
have been Susannah who m. Peter Wilfong. William had these sisters: Susannah
(May 7, 1794) m. Gregory; Olive (Jan 16, 1797) m. Hiram Duncan (Oct 23,
1790); Rachel (Oct 28, 1811) m. Nov 22, 1830 James Hall. Olive and Hiram
moved to Henderson County and are buried at Refuge Baptist Church cemetery
at Dana, NC; according to her epitaph, she was a consistent member of the
Baptist church for 40 years. William and Charles were likely Baptist, and
many of their descendants have remained loyal to that denomination.

February 1819 William m. Martha ("Patsy") DeBord, daughter of John and
Martha "Patsy" Edwards DeBord of Surry County, NC. In 1800 John and Patsy
(Edwards) DeBord were still in Surry Co., NC, but by 1810 they had moved to
Rutherford Co., NC. In 1830 Patsy DeBord is listed as head of the family in
Buncombe Co., NC. After the deaths of his parents (in 1830) William and
Martha moved in 1831 to Buncombe County on 100 acres near Asheville. William
by this time had dropped the "s" from his surname.
