I seem to remember Gus Cameron taking me on an Icelander at Leith.... what
happened thereafter is now (& was then) a bit hazy!

Hello Jim,
I remember your name from family yarns. Jack is still going strong and
finished up as Surveyor, Kirkaldy. Something to do with oils I think. He
made CPO c1969 and was actually my boss in Shetland as our CPO was in
Aberdeen. He rotated annually with George Budge CPO who is also still aluve
and living in Banchory. The old brigade are still around when you dig deep
enough. I think we had the best of times. Gus Cameron PO served in Shetland.
The locals were still speaking about him when I arrived. I remember him
entertaining us in Dover by dancing on the baggage bench while we were
waiting for the next ferry. Billd.

Bill Doverty, brother of Jack, an old friend of mine from Leith collection,
at last someone has come on with whom I have a slight connection. Did Jack
ever tell you about the interview we attended together to escape into the
officer grade, we had both been passed over for CPO and this seemed a way
out of stagnation for us. Jack's story made me laugh as I had a similar
experience with a hatchet man, both of us sunk without trace, I don't think
they wanted old revenue men. Jim Allen
