Just as a matter of interest I believe that officers were still traveling on
the QE2 from New York to Southampton from time to time up to 'quite
recently'. One who was reported to have 'traveled' was Derek Stubbs, ex PO
(later just Officer / EO). He must have been one of the last PO's in
Southampton. I last heard of him on the Cutters.
As for the Dover boat train I rummaged it some time in 1970 / 71, I think it
was, with a scratch rummage crew on its way up to Victoria Station. We only
found the breakfast!

In Newcastle in the 70s I met Bill Green, who retired around 1976, and who
had undertaken this duty. There may still be someone somewhere about, but it
must be remembered that some of our aged colleagues do not have access to
the internet. One or two of them may read The Bond - if anyone would care to
commence correspondence to try to pull someone out of the rafters, please
write something for publication and I will see that it gets into the next
issue (October).
Cheers,
Dave Taylor (Editor, The Bond)
