Karen
I know it's a long time ago, but I was really interested in your
transcript of the story of John Hossington/Horsington - the boy
kidnapped from England and shipped to the US. I have recently joined
the list and I am trying to trace my Hossington family tree back as
far as possible, so any connection between the States and Britain was
of great interest to me (I am in Wales).
Following on from your information - I have looked in the
International Genealogical Index (based at the Public Records Office
in Kew, London) and have found the following entries:
There are 3 John Horsingtons in the IGI from around the period your
John Horsington was thought to be born
(Horsington/Hossington/Hoxsington all are interchangeable because of
old English script - r, s & x could all be misread/written):
John Horsington christened 5 August 1647 in Saint Dunstan, Stepney
London
John Horsington christened in January 1640 in Saint Botolph with
Aldate, London
John Horsington christened on 29 January 1654 in Tewkesbury,
Shropshire
It would seem that the last John Horsington would seem to fit the
best with your John Horsington because that date seems to match
pretty well with the date range of your John Horsington's birth.
If you would like more information - I can give you a reference
number from the IGI and you can access more information. I don't
know at this stage whether you can do it via the internet or whether
it will have to be snail mail.
Let me know if you are interested!!
ERIKA
