tina,
harriette's suggestion of a photo cd is probably the easiest and most
functional way for you to get those negs scanned. a flatbed scanner
(usually) requires a special attachment in order to scan transparencies,
etc. esp. when good results are desired. you could monkey around with
projecting a light source over the scanner and seeing what happens when you
scan that way. in other words, the negs need some kind of light source to
project through them to create an image, just like in photographic
printing. i haven't tried this kind a set up, so can't vouch for results.
taking the negs to a lab and having them make a photo cd sound so much
easier and better, eh? btw, what size are these negatives - 35mm? photo cds
made from 35mm are fairly inexpensive and a great way to archive those
images. larger format film will cost more to scan.
i am a total map nut too, so this is just making my head spin delightfully!
off to grade those darling students - it's nearly the end of the semester!
