Subject: [HOISINGTON-L] Not "Charging" for Harry's work
Date: Sun, 04 Apr 1999 09:52:05 -0400
Several people have sent me e-mail stating:
"I'll send a check to help cover your costs."
or words to that effect. I just sent the following
answer to one person:
*************
Here's the story. I was STUCK on my gg-grandmother's
ancestry for over two years. (She was Caira Hoisington).
I tried every way I knew, and couldn't so much as find
the names of her parents. It was only by sheer luck
and accident, that I mentioned my problem to a woman,
who told me she had some Hoisington "Papers" in boxes
in her attic, and I was welcome to copy them.
My mother picked them up, and copied them. They turned
out to be Harry's "book", and there was Caira's
Hoisington lineage that had been eluding me for SO
long...
Needless to say, we were *thrilled* with this material.
My mother and I worked very closely, and very hard, on
researching our lines for the last six years of her
life. We both felt very strongly that any data we had
should be shared. It was freely given to us, and we
believed we should give it freely in turn. So we
never "charged" anything for the copies. Our "payment"
is the hope that those we share with will share with
others.
********
I don't think Harry charged for his work. Therefore,
how could I justify it? :)
