Hi, Birdie.

In answer to your questions:

Xeroxing this would be much easier than inputting it, believe me. It took
me two solid months to input the original document (about 200 pages) at 4-5
hours a day (60 x 4=240 hours) and I'm a fast typist. Even if there were
8 typists, it would take about 30 hours apiece.

Which is what I have been doing for the past two years. I'm sure that I do
not have all the information that some of the rest of you have been able to
gather, but it could be the basis for an "updated version" of Harry's book.
That was what I was trying to do with the MI/WI branch of the family.

Often it is difficult to tell in Harry's book whether different
dates/spellings in different parts of his book are typos and/or errors,
which is why I have included all dates and spellings in my database until
such time as I can determine if there IS a correct spelling (remember that
spelling was VERY fluid before 1840) or what the correct date is, based on
something more substantial than what is sometimes "a second cousin's
recollection".

After two years of inputting additional information and people and/or
correcting spelling and/or typing errors, I'd say that getting back to the
original from my database is about nil.

What I offered was to share my updated version... not INSTEAD of the
original version, which could still be copied ... but so that 1) we would
not keep going back in our research to a version that Harry acknowledged
had typos and was incomplete, and 2) we could provide a more complete and
accurate version to other researchers.

So, maybe we do have two projects here:

1) to get a historical record of the research done by a previous researcher
(Harry) to those who would like a copy, and

2) to provide the most current and complete information that all we, as a
group, have.

I fully acknowledge that, although it is more up-to-date than Harry's
version, I probably do not have a "complete" and "fully accurate" version
in my database. I had hoped that by sharing the information with the people
on the list, we could all participate in making it as much so as possible.

Harriette
