Man, you guys have it sooooo easy. Have you tried sorting out the JOHN
HOLDER variations? Now that's a job! And the William/Bill Holders may be
even harder.

Good Grief Bill,
Of course you share! That's a good thing. The problem, as I see it,
is
that sometimes you put people together in immediate families without
proof to back it up which is what I was questioning in the first
place.
Why do you insist that Solomon Langston Holder, son of Jesse Holder
and
Mary Langston, and Solomon Holder of Franklin Co., TN are one and
the
same? NEVER, in anything (deeds, settlement of estate, censuses,
etc.)
have I seen Solomon Holder of Franklin Co., TN use the middle name
of
Langston, or the initial L, nor do his children refer to there
being a
middle name or initial.
There were many Solomon Holders about during the time period we're
discussing. Just separating them is a chore. It helps that Jesse
names
his children in his will, for that takes his son, Solomon Langston,
out
of the running for my family. When was Jesse's will written or
probated?
I can't put my hands on it at the moment.
Good point Elizabeth, concerning the age of Solomon in Surry Co.,
NC. It
was quite late when I wrote the 1774-84 (my Math skills are not the
greatest) and I just took the earliest and latest dates of the
category.
It is entirely possible that Solomon was not married on the 1790
census
but living with a sister or a widowed Mother. On the 1800 census he
is
listed in the 16-26 category with a wife 16-26, a daughter and 2
sons
under 10. Knowing my ggGrandfather, Alfred, to have been born abt.
1797,
and Cornelius to have been born 1800 (I think), the daughter (Sarah,
who
married Benjamin Looney) could have been born either before or after
the
2 boys, possibly 1795 or 1802. This could put Solomon Holder and
Sarah
Unknown married as late as 1794, and Solomon of a more acceptable
age
for marriage.
Made an assumption they were married by the 1790 census. That's a
no-no
(the assuming part)! I certainly agree with the unlikelyhood of the
movement from Surry Co., NC to Laurens Co., SC, and back to Surry
Co.,
NC from Laurens Co., SC for the birth of Joseph. Have no idea where
my
Solomon was born.
Imagine, all this because I took exception to Bill's complaint that
we
were hearing too much about Rem/Reu, and just HAD to bring up the
Solomon issue!
Musing - If Jesse Holder and Mary Langston came from the coastal
area of
SC, and they didn't give the name of Davis to any of their children,
(or
grandchildren??) could that mean that Solomon came into NC from VA,
since Solomon did name a child Davis???
Oh Heavens, Shirley, now what have you stirred up? Sorry!
My appreciation to those who are enjoying and participating in this
unsolved mystery!!
