Cousin Jo,
The Holder surname can be found in America as early as 1638, they came from
England. Most of the Holder lines came to America before the 1776 "troubles"
as called there, or "revolution" as called here. We are not sure How many came
from England, or how many was born here. It seems as though the early family
was fairly wealthy, not many, if any came as indentured servants.
There are not many of us here, just a few thousand, but for the most part we
are a group of skilled and professional people. One interesting trait that
seems to run in the Holder family is a cleft chin, ( a chin that is divided from
top to bottom in the middle), is this found in the English Holders ?.
There were some Holders that came from Germany, but most of them changed the
spelling to Holder from Holter, Halder, Etc.
