1869, Steubensville, Ohio; m. in New Bedford, Massachusetts, 15th June,
1907, MARION RICKETSON SLOCUM, b. 1st August, 1885, dau. of FRANCIS
RICKETSON and PHOEBE (HAYWARD) SLOCUM, of New Bedford, Massachusetts; he the
son of FREDERICK SLOCUM, b. 1833, d. 1868, m. CAROLINE C. RUSSELL; he the
son of Hon. RICKETSON SLOCUM, b. 1790, d. 1854, m. JEMIMA WING; he son of
PELEG (“KING”) SLOCUM, b. 1746, d. 1820, m. AMY RUSSELL; he the son of Capt.
HOLDER SLOCUM, b. 1697, d. 1758, who m. (second wife) REBECCA ALMY; he the
son of Rev. PELEG SLOCUM, b. 1654, d. 1735; m. MARY HOLDER; he the son of
GILES SLOCUM, who settled at Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island,
probably in 1638, m. JOAN (maiden name not given). GILES SLOCUM, supposed to
be the son of one ANTHONY SLOCUM, of whom little is known, the common
ancestor of all the SLOCUMS, was b. in Somersetshire, England. He settled at
Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island, probably in 1638.

THOMAS JEWETT HALLOWELL, Banker, was educated at St. Paul’s School,
Concord, New Hampshire and in Europe. Began his banking career as clerk in
the Second National Bank of New York City; Clerk to American Surety Company;
Manager Fidelity Department of Lawyers Surety Company; Member of Banking
firm of HOLLOWELL & HENRY; served as petty (naval) officer in the Spanish
American War; Treasurer Associated Industrial Corporation; President
Chauncey Realty Company.
Lineage
The founder of this branch of the American family was JOHN HALLOWELL who
with his wife, MARY SHARPE, dau. of THOMAS SHARPE, arrived at Darby,
Pennsylvania, from Hacknow, Parish of Sutton, Nottinghamshire, England,
bringing a Quaker certificate dated 19th December, 1682. They afterward
removed to Abington, Pennsylvania. The date of his or his wife’s birth are
not positively known.
