This was posted on another list, the author (Cindy Amrhein <>) has
given permission for me to pass along the info. Thanks, Cindy!
I started checking one of my surnames (Smalley) and found an entry in a book
stating a Smalley was in Plymouth Colony in 1644!

If you haven't seen this web site by Cornell University Library, you just have to
go there!!!!

It is called The Making of America." There are over 907,000 pages! You can do a
search or browse. If you hit browse you can see their holdings of online
material. I mean not an online directory of where to get stuff, but you can
actually read the articles! I found something on a company I was looking for from
1890s. It was in the "Century in Review" for 1895, the actual page as an image.
I copied the pic and saved it to print. All the listings covered 1815-1926. They
are both books and journals.
For example you can read this whole thing on line:
Author: L. H. Clark
Title: Military history of Wayne County, N.Y.: Military register. Wayne County
in the Civil War, 1861-1865
Publisher: Lewis H. Clark, Hulett & Gaylord Publication Date: 1883
City: Sodus, N.Y. Pages: 936 page images!!
It is a must see!!!!
