Thousands of readers have written to us about our experimental Space Station
Science Picture of the Day web site. We can't respond to so many messages
individually, but we do appreciate your feedback. Many of those who wrote asked
that we notify our subscribers by email whenever a new Picture of the Day is
posted. In the spirit of experimentation, we're going to try it. Here's the
first notification:

Using nothing more than an ordinary off-the-shelf digital camera, ISS science
officer Don Pettit captured a picture of asteroid Vesta gliding through space
200 million kilometers from Earth.
