We at the Hood DNA Project know that some of you have been reticent about joining because of the cost of DNA testing. Many of you have been searching for years trying to find a connection to another Hood line and have travelled around the country to libraries and archives searching for that clue that will give you the big breakthrough you've been looking for. But doing that costs money as well as time. Let's look at it from an economic viewpoint. For example, if a person in St. Louis drives to Nashville to research at the state archives, it is a distance of about 300 miles and let's say their car gets 25 miles to the gallon. And let's say they stay two nights at an inexpensive motel at $55 a night. We won't even take into account the cost of meals, copying and other expenses. Here's what it will cost that person:

Gas:600 miles round-trip plus 50 miles $58.50
driving around Nashville at $2.25/gallon
Lodging: 2 nights at $55/night 110.00

The total is $168.50 which is equivalent of taking a 25 marker DNA test! Plus, with the test results you'll get some definite, scientific answers as to whom you are and are not related to! With over 30 men already involved in the test and from many different lines, you'll be able to significantly narrow your focus for future research.

As a bonus, there are some specific Hood lines that can get their testing done for free or at greatly reduced costs. The funding for this comes from other Hood researchers associated with the Hood DNA Project that are wanting to get new lines involved in the project. Those lines available for funding are:

The Tunis Hood family
The Aaron Hood family of Knox County, TN
The Lucas Hood family of Knox County, TN
The Thomas and Jane Hood family of Amelia County, VA
Hoods of Lancaster, Chester, Fairfield, and York Counties, SC not already involved in the Hood DNA Project
Hoods of Burke County, NC not already involved in the Hood DNA Project

Please contact us if you have any questions about the project. You can order test kits at www.familytreedna.com. In the upper right hand corner of the home page, you'll see a box you can type HOOD into and that will take you to the Hood DNA Project. You can also view the results of the testing at www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hood/. Even if you aren't a member of our project, please feel free to register your Hood ancestral information there.

Hi Clyde and other Hood relatives,
I have a sugestion for those still holding back on testing, because of price... If you test with DNA Finger Print.. for one test, a simple one marker.. you can then buy one marker at a time for little of nothing...untel you have a full set of markers. If you go to my company comparison chart, check out which companies offer what tests, then check the pricing at each company, links included. then contact Anne at She does batch orders for people who order from DNA-F, the orders allmost always reach a 40% off and sometimes 50% off the costs.
Its a way to test without breaking the pocket book!
Comparison Chart:

Hope this helps some of you..
