That story came from Hooper Genealogy by Flora Hooper Collier (the
Hooper book). When I first began work on family history in 1997
primarily to give to my younger brothers, I received 20 pages from
Dorothy Hooper (Dorothy, John Preston, Alonzo, John Jefferson, Richard,
Obediah, Jr. Obediah, 1) . I found it had incorrect information, such
as we were descended from William Hooper (the Signer). Most of it was
her direct line and most regarding descendants in Shelby County, Texas.
With the help of Hooper Genealogy, the History of Shelby County, Vol. 1
and the internet connections, I began to expand on it until it reached
310 pages. In December of 2000, I gave out 36 printed copies with 20
pages of color photos to my extended family members including everyone
who had contributed to it, including Dorothy Hooper. My cousin Edgel
Permenter, daughter of my father's sister, who also, lives in Shelby
County near Dorothy decided they would put it on the Shelby County
site. For some reason, Dorothy decided to take her handwritten notes
and add what I had in "my book" in her own handwriting and copied much
of it. To my surprise, I found it on the internet with many
misspellings, etc. and discussed it with the site manager. He asked me
if I would send him a zip drive with my records on it, so that he could
correct it. He put much of my material on it (not all). Clay has
linked that site to the Hooper DNA site. Just thought I would explain
how that came about. Deanna
