I ran across your message -

"Mary's husband Parker A Hooper was killed in 1861 in a gunfight by John Cummins (son in law?). The Hoopers and Cummins families were next door neighbors in 1860 in Wolf River, Doniphan County, KS. Mary shows up on the 1870 Census as Mary Moore with children Benton Hooper, Eliza Hooper and Sarah E. Hooper in Doniphan Co. Kansas; 1880 she is in Sonoma County, Ca. with daughter Elizabeth Hooper listed as Mary Dittemore. Does anyone know who second husband Dittemore was? The Cummins, Hoopers and Dittemores were some of the first settlers in Doniphan County Kansas on Wolf River."

I'm on the John Cummings side. I have a question - Parker and Mary Hooper's daughter Caroline married John Cummin(g)s. Do you know if Parker and Mary also had an older daughter named Armilla? Grandma always said that John Cummins married Armilla first, who was the older sister. After John's first wife died, the little sister Caroline came to help take take of the kids. Shortly after Caroline and John got married. However most of the records show Amelia Mann was his first wife. Maybe John Cummins had 3 wives.

Do you know when Parker Hooper was born? I know he died April 1861 in Hoopers Ford, RR Severance, KS. Do you know Mary's date of birth?
