Great to see so much interest in the Hoover surname again! I am descended
from Casper Hoover, who was said to have been born in Holland ca 1730,
parents unknown. I can pick up his trail in Ontario, Canada (Adolphustown),
where he arrived in 1784 as a United Empire Loyalist, being a veteran of
Butler's Rangers loyalist troops. His wife was Barbara Monk and his known
children were Henry b 1763, Jacob b 1765 and John b 1783. Casper was killed
by a tree while clearing land in Adolphustown in 1786. Sons Henry and Jacob
also served in Butler's Rangers. I am descended to Casper through John.
In a UEL claim for losses filed by his sons with the British after his
death, Casper was said to have lost a farm in Pennsylvania "along the
Susquehanna" after he joined the British. I have found a Casper Huber in
the 1771 Property Tax List for Lancaster Borough, Lancaster County.
Does anyone else have a Casper Hoover/Hover/Huber in or near their line? I
have given up on referencing Henry, Jacob or John as just about every Hoover
line I've seen has at least one of those names in it! I want to connect
Casper to parents and siblings and find out as much as I can about him. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
