North Carolina
-----------------

Researched Generations 1, 2, 3, and 4:
Martin/Edgecombe/Halifax/Tyrell Counties, NC ...

(1)JAMES==(2)JETHRO==(3)JAMES==(4)WHITNEY (b. c.1775);
1700s ... earlier reseachers of this line indicated the presences of a
will of 2nd James that proves he is father of Whitney Howell. Index of
North Carolina Ancestors, Vol. II, 1984, states: JAMES HOWELL, b.c.1750
NC/d.c1810 NC, reference number 063, spouse named ELIZABETH; WHITNEY
HOWELL b.c.1780/ d. 1832 NC, reference number 063, spouse named SARAH
WATSON; ELIZABETH DOROTHY HOWELL, spouse 1 named JORDAN, spouse 2 named
REUBAN STATON MANNING (Whitney's daughter)b. 1817 NC/ d. 1849 MS,
reference number 063, later she and Manning lived in DeSoto County,
Mississippi on large plantation near Hernando...parents of organizer of
AR 3rd Confererate Infantry, MS legislator-Vannoy Hartrog Manning
Points I wonder about:
........a. Whitlock is name used in a census-- Mother's maiden name??
........b. Whitney is name used in his own will, 1839.
........c. Marriage to Sarah Watson, she was daughter of
Jordan Watson and Elizabeth Culpeper
........d Marriage to Sarah Watson referred to in two seperate
accounts, same estimated date, one as being to Whitney and the other to
Thomas .. suspect he was actually named Thomas Whitlock)
........e. Whitney's mother ... James may have been married to Delana
Daniel, daughter of Asa and Judith Daniels. Judith's will names Delana
Boswell (Howell???) and grandson, Levi Howell.

Lettice) Arminda Elgin of Abbeville, South Carolina. They were parents of
my
grandmother, Eunice Matilda Howell (1880-1969), who was born in South
Carolina and died in Birmingham, Alabama.
Eunice was married to my grandfather, John Gordon Johnson, of Georgia
(Rome, I think). She also had three brothers, Clarence, John, and Wade.
Clarence had three daughters, and I think that Wade had a son named
John.
Eunice Howell and John Johnson had two children, Lettie Johnson Riser
and my father, John Gordon Johnson, Jr.

I am son of Joseph Alexander Howell (Georgetown, SC)
His dad was Samuel Joseph Howell (Georgetown) (married Matha Cribb)
