Subject: Verdreis/Vertrees

I have always been told my Vertrees heritage was from Alsace-Lorraine
area and that Johnnes Verdriess went to Holland where his sons, John and
Joseph Vertrees were born. My grandmother told me they were Huguenots.
I have them traced back to Johnnes Verdriess and then have a block. Is
this a name that was common. They came to America in about 1760's or so
into MD, or NJ and eventually went to Kentucky with Jacob VanMeter
VanMetern.
