Hello;
I am a new subscriber and this is my first request for information on "Gruet" family. The earliest of the Gruet's that I have found were in the Besancon, France area. A man named Jacques (James) Gruet was beheaded at the direction of the thealogian, John Calvin.
I have found Gruet's who were Huguenot members of the Orangestreet church in London, England in about 1730 or so. There was a child named James Gruet who was baptised there.
My first "Gruet" ancestor found in North America was also a James Gruet and he would have been born about 1730.
The Gruet name has been spelled several ways here in North America. Gruet,Gruett, Gruette, Grewett, Grewette and Gruit. We are told that in Europe the name may have also been spelled as Grut,(with an umlaut)
Any information at all of "Gruet's" of any spelling will be much appreciated
Thank you; Ted McKissack;
