Subject: [HWE] Naturalization/Denization: ENG> DUBOIS prior to 1700

My JOHN DUBOIS was in the Charleston, SC area paying quit rents by 1696.
His wife's name at the time of his death abt. 1723 was JANE. His
children were JOHN and JASPER [a/k/a GASPARD.]

I believe that JOHN DUBOIS or his parents most likely migrated to SC
from England, through NY or the West Indies.

In viewing various church records in England, there are many JOHN DUBOIS
listings, but I haven't been able to quite link them up yet.

I am hoping to find my John at this point through the process of
elimination--by eliminating those who definitely stayed in England or
elsewhere and died there.

Of course, documentation of a marriage with JANE would help. Or birth
records of JOHN, JASPER, or GASPARD.

I have a feeling, though, that it was John's parents who were
naturalized, and I don't yet know who they were. I am intrigued by the
naturalization of an ISAAC, MARGUERITE, and sons JOHN, JONAS and
ALEXANDER.

My gut feeling also is that my branch came originally from the DUBOIS
from La Rochelle or other sea-going town close by, rather than the
DUBOIS from Wicres who mostly ended up in the Netherlands and thereafter
NY.

So, I am requesting lookups for not only JOHN DUBOIS, but other DUBOIS
names prior to 1700.

Merci,

Elizabet
