| Could you check your index for the following name please? My
| French Huguenot ancestors were JOURDAIN and although I know
| they came across the channel from Dieppe to Spitalfields, I don't
| know if this was their home town. I also know that quite a few of the
| JOURDAINs were Directors of the French Hospital. One of the
| Jourdains married a Mauger so I was interested to see that name
| being linked with Lintot, Seine-Maritime.

There is absolutely no evidence that "a few JOURDAINs were directors of the
French Hospital". That is during the above period. As an appendix to the
publication it provides an "Index of the Officers and Officials of the
Hospital 1718 - 1957" and the name is not featured. I think some confusion
has occurred because the name is listed under the "Index of guarantors and
sponsors giving financial aid to inmates". Until 1781 the pensions - 3s.6d
per week - were paid, either wholly or partly, by private individuals......
They had to undertake the "Obligations d'Indemnite" for the admission of
lunatics. Your name is mentioned twice, a Guillaume in 1764 and a William
(the same person?) in 1770 and the two people sponsored were André DU CAUSSE
and Michel VARIN.

There is mention of a George T JOURDAIN who was admitted on 6 July 1878 and
I can supply some information but I suspect this may not be the period you
are seeking.

As for MAUGER there are many references and I list below the names and
dates. Again I can supply further information if any/all are of interest.

Jacques - 1747
Susanne - 1779. This is the person from Lintot and was the widow of Michel
ARIVÉ and daughter of Jacques MAUGER. She was buried 10 Oct 1780 aged 81
years.
Anne - 1739
Daniel - 1721
Elizabeth - 1747
Jean - 1768
Jeanne - 1772. Widow of DAUBUCHON
Jeanne - 1770. Daughter of Baptiste MAUGER
Marie - 1742
Marie - 1764
Pierre - 1730
Rachel - 1772. Widow of BOURDON and daughter of Thomas MAUGER.

Hope this helps.

Roy
