Hello Andrea and All:

I know that the two brothers who were the 'heads' of the House of Guise were
instrumental in inviting the Spanish Inquisition into nothern France in 1568
after the city of Calais had been won back from the English - I think they
came in just a week or two later but were Franciscans? then and not Jesuits.
Many of the people who were first sentenced to permanent exile from Artois
and other areas of northern France were allowed to take their 'wealth' and
movable possessions with them. They say the wealthier 'heretics' went north
to the Netherlands, the poorer went straight over to England, and the people
who still wanted to fight went to Germany, but that may be just a myth.

Regards -
Carol
