Subject: [HWE] New Message Board (Huguenots in U.S.)

Hi, everyone --
This message is off-topic for HWE but I hope you'll all agree with my
decision to post the following information. I'm sure this news will be of
interest to many of you. But please, no resulting thread on this topic --
that would be pushing the HWE guidelines too far <g>.
For those of you who have Huguenot ancestors who settled in the United
States, I just happened to find a brand-new Message Board which is
specifically for posting info about Huguenots who settled in British North
America in the 17th-18th centuries.
So, all you folks on this mailing list who have an interest in this area
and time period, here's your chance to put your info in one more place
for others to find! Why not skedaddle over to the new Board to have a look
and maybe even post a message of your own? This is a great new resource
for researchers with U.S. ties.
Note that this new Board is not gatewayed to any mailing list so
messages posted there will, of course, stay on the Board, but copies
will not be forwarded anywhere else.
You can find the new Board on the Rootsweb site (www.rootsweb.com) by
following these links --
Boards > Topics > Immigration and Emigration > United States > Huguenots
or by going directly to --
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.immigration.us.hug
enots
(That is a long URL which takes up more than one line so you will have to
copy/paste it to your internet browser. Make sure to include the word
"hugenots" at the very end. Yes, it's mis-spelled <smile>.)
I see that the new Board is already pretty busy, with as many posts on
it in a week than the HWE Board has had in two months (sigh.....<g>).
Seriously, though, this is probably to be expected because there is a lot of
info and interest out there about Huguenots in the U.S. For example, quite
a few U.S. states have their own Huguenot Society.
And that's the end of my news flash <g>.
But for those of you here on this list with European info, don't forget
our own HWE Board. As I've said many times before, the more places
you put your info, the greater your chances of "cousins" -- or at least a
helpful friend -- finding you. Only a miniscule percentage of HWE
subscribers have taken advantage of our Board so far. If you want to
give it a try, instructions on how to get to the HWE Board have been put
on the list website in two different places. It's on the Home Page at
http://www.island.net/~andreav/index.html and also in the Beyond the
Basics section at http://www.island.net/~andreav/beyond.htm.
And, of course, if you have both U.S. and European connections, there
is nothing to stop you from posting on *both* Boards, with details adjusted
accordingly. Andrea
