Hi
I am looking for info on my ancestors:
Anything on the family of Jean DU BUIS, who left Calais for the Cape Colony, South Africa (under the control of the Dutch East India Company at the time) in 1688, on board the Oosterland. Apparently he was one of the few winemakers that came out to begin the wine industry in Franschhoek. Today the name has been corrupted to BUYS.
Any info on the SALTER family who left France and ended up in London - the earliest ancestor I have is Peter SALTER who married Ann WARD in St Olave's, London, in 1829. He died at about 86 years of age in the French Hospital, London. I do not know where Peter SALTER was born and I do not know who his parents were. I also wondered if anyone knows what the French version of SALTER is. (The family spoke French until well into the 1900's and also has links to Hampshire, UK.)
Peter SALTER's daughter, Eliza Mary Ann, married John (LE) BEAU, a chairmaker, in the 1860's.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Cathrynne Salter-Jansen
