Subject: [HWE] Standards/Accuracy of Research (was: DNA, etc.)

Hello listers --
Thanks to Bob, Gerald and Andrew for a very interesting
diversionary discussion about DNA. Unfortunately off-topic
but interesting nonetheless <smile>.
Bob, in your posts, you raised the important issue of
truthfulness, accuracy and ethics in genealogical research.
I absolutely agree with your comments. This is an important
topic since it applies to any and all areas of genealogy (not
just DNA research).
Some time ago, on 2 Jan 2001, I posted some info on this
same topic (subject line: Verifying Accuracy of Research). This
was an article written in 1999 by LeRoy Eastes of the U.S.
National Genealogical Society. The same info was also put
on our HWE website a few days later (ie. early January 2001).
It can be found in the Beyond the Basics section under the
heading Standards for Genealogical Research at:
http://www.island.net/~andreav/standards.htm.
Personally, I feel that the standards as outlined by Mr.
Eastes should be recommended reading for all
genealogists, regardless of their level of expertise.
And Bob, thank you for saying that we should now drop
the DNA thread. Again I agree. So, let's move on please,
everyone. As you all know, our focus here on HWE is
Huguenot/Walloon research in Europe and/or the UK
and/or Ireland. Has anyone got anything they'd like to post
to the list about this topic? Andrea
