I agree with Peter Leroy . I'll give the example of the family by which I'm
linked to this list, the Hotman. One of my ancestors is a very famous french
huguenot jurist Francois Hotman. This person had children who remained
protestant or became catholic of wich my ancestor Suzanne. Most of this
family tree is at http://members.aol.com/davidbaud/hotman.htm and I have
recently added there genealogical links from a catholic branch to the king
and queen of Belgium. I wanted to see what happened to distant cousins of my
ancestors if they remained in Europe while mine came for different reasons
to North America. Luc

I often read with some interest the requests for
further information etc. and in this list, it happens
to be about Huguenots and / or Walloons in Europe.

My eyes picked up one line of a recent post .."Register
of Qualified Huguenot Ancestors".

Now this really has me curious. To me it sounds as
though one needs to pass an examination of some sort to
join the "club"

I do not understand the meaning of "Qualified".

Surely if your family history is well documented and
you have every other reason to beleive that your family
were French or Belgian, Non-Catholic, beleived in the
teaching of Calvin et al., happened to have had all
lands, titles, monies, etc. taken from you for actually
following such non-Catholic doctrine, then by doing so
you were then generally called 'Huguenot'

Your family either were or were not, it is that simple.
Having to "qualify" seems a rather odd requirement.

Could someone offer this humble researcher an
explanation that might make some sense to becoming
"Qualified"
