Luc wrote today about the L'Hopital family in
particular Michel L'Hopital.

Spending the afternoon reading about some of our
extended ancestors seems to have paid off.

And it takes me back to a question I raised here some
time ago. The question was more about the debate raging
within our family about who stays and who goes on the
database.

And Michel L'Hopital fits that scenario very well now
that I know who he was.

And knowing who he was is very much thanks to Luc, one
of the HWE subscribers. See ? We can all learn and add
by participating.

For Luc's benenfit.... As I mentioned we have a few of
the L'Hopital family on our tree but most pre-date
Michel, although some do actually coincide with the
dates for Michel.

In short it seems that there is a very very remote
link. That comes down through our Leroy link with the
Courtenay family (we were almost next door neighbours
and you know how kids can play ?.. long story and not
for here) Guillaume de Courtenay born in 1220 in Devon,
England, son of Robert. It is this line that eventually
see's Jean de Courtenay (D:1460) marry Catherine de
L'Hopital on 12 Jan 1423.

By a wavy line it goes to Jean L'Hopital and Charles
and so on to Michel L'Hopital.

So we will keep Michel on file as a "person of
interest' but not really related. Just when the
relatives in France thought that they had cleaned out
the hard drive too.

So listers. If you have followed this flurry of posts
between Luc and myself, you will see how a very minor
comment or name can lead to something really worthwhile
in your family research.

Thank you Luc, you have now solved a small mystery for
another family.

Regards,
Peter Leroy
