Information from 1904 & 1911 articles indicate that he was a French Huguenot (is listed by the Huguenot Society), was of lower French nobility, perhaps served as an officer in the French military, was born about 1634 and fled about 1682.<
There have been some messages recently to this list about him; you might want to
search the archives.
> We have documentation that shows that he was naturalized in New York/New Amsterdam in Sep 1685 and that his wife was named Annecke. <
I am curious what your naturalization documentation is. Could you please give
a more complete citation? It does not say anything about where he was from?
Anneke seems to me to be a Dutch or Scandinavian name. So, maybe he
married her in New York. Unfortunately, the French Church records there
don't begin that early, and I do not see him in the Reformed Dutch Chruch
records there.
>The next month--and apparently from then on--he migrated to Germantown, PA and lived there and at Kingsessing, Philadelphia. It is interesting to note that Germantown was settled only about 2-3 years earlier and had a mixed German/Dutch populace. This, of course, may indicate that Andris and wife were familiar with the group in Krefeld, Germany before they departed. The couple appear as witnesses at a LEVERING marriage shortly after their arrival in Germantown. Andris' will was written in 1724 and proved in 1726 in Philadelphia and indicates that he was a ripe old age.<
Have you seen the complete will or just the abstract?
Once in a while you get lucky and property in Europe will be
mentioned in the will.

If he was from Picardy and went to NY, it seems to me the simplest route
would be through The Netherlands. As far as I know, there are no surviving
passenger lists from The Netherlands to NY for the 1680 time-frame.
You might want to search a set of data called the Walloon Collection
aka Leiden Collection. This contains church records of French-speaking
protestants in Leiden as well as other cities. It is available on microfilm
from the LDS. It has been discussed on this list; so, for more info
search the archives. I would start there if you want to look for a
marriage to Anneke in The Netherlands, but don't know a city.
By the way, if you do find him in the marriage records of a Dutch
Church, it will probably say where he was born. But, I don't know if
the Walloon churches in The Netherlands show this as well or not.
If none of my ideas above pan out and you want to try a long shot, the
marriage records of the Reformed Church in Krefeld have been filmed
by the LDS beginning with 1677. I seem to recall reading that everyone
there had to register their banns with that church, no matter what
church they married in.

Howard
