I have read of this happening in the 19th century and there was a date when
it ceased I am sure. We were in the Cevennes on one of the international
reunions in 1988 when a policeman asked why so many 'Americans' had name
tags with French names. When he was told about the reunion he said "why
dont you all come back here and live".
