I noted in passing a discussion concerning the conformity or not of the
French Churches in London - and I believe I am correct in recalling from the
distant depths of my fast decomposing memory - - - that there were some
churches that conformed almost completely becoming Anglicized (or CofE) in
all but name and adopting the CofE order of service even though, if I recall
correctly, they translated most of the service into their native tongue - -
--- I believe the Savoy church was the most obvious example of this desire
to conform --- most of the other church continued to practice their religion
as they had in France before escaping across the channel and might well be
considered non-conformist for that reason - - - I believe that there was
some pressure exerted to encourage all to conform but the details escape me
- - - I think this is a accurate statement as to affairs back then, but in
case I might be misled I tried to confirm these hazy memories and foggy
recollections by googling, but google didn't help -- can any of the more
wise amongst the listees straighten me out here.
