A little tid bit to add to the interest in Huguenot military men. In 1577 a Huguenot General FRANCOIS DE LA NOUE in Gascony intercepted a coded letter of John of Austria, Spanish governor of the Netherlands. This is the only reference to this individual on page 144 in the book. I personnally never heard of this individual.Unfortunately, there is no index. This info is contained in the book Her Majesty's Spymaster: Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Walsingham, and the birth of Modern Espionage, by Stephen Budiansky.
