Hi Shane
It depends what you are looking for. All the Hug Soc's QS are on the open
shelves there, as are the Harlean Society publications with the London,
Canterbury and other Bishop's records, London Church records etc.
Apart from that and the really easy stuff to use, best thing to do is to hit
their catalogue.
Couple of pointers - I used to work there as one of their in-house
researchers - speak to the staff when you get there and explain to them what
it is that you're looking for.
Don't be afraid to ask the staff questions - they really are a very
knowledgeable bunch and will help you where ever they can.
>From a practical point of view, order catalogue material first, it takes a
little while to arrive. While you're waiting for the material, gives you
space to cruise the open shelves.
And be warned, they are very strict on photocopying there and you have to
pay for it, think it's 50p a shot. Buy a card, it works out cheaper - and
stay away from the bookshop unless you have lots of money to spend, it's not
expensive just addictive.
Regards
Tony Fuller
