Hi - Does the stone this inscription is written on look like a stone or
cast of a tree trunk or like a branch of a tree? If it does, this
ancestor may be a member of the order of Woodmen. I only know about this
organization through their particular way of memorializing their members
- they have these very unusual gravestones that are suppose to resemble
nature. Today, it's rarely done and are considered works of excellant
craftmanship and every one is different.
I do know that the Woodman Order kept records depending on where your
ancestor died.Perhaps the local historical society in the area your
ancestor resided in may be able to assist you in locating the whereabouts
of some existing memebers who may know about the records.
