Hi Steve:
This is only a guess but after visiting rural Hungary in the spring I would say the
following.
Yes they are pleased that we are still interested in our roots.
They are interested but not to the same degree. I think providing a living takes a
larger effort there than it does here so they don't have spare time for such things.
Their future is not as stable as ours?? and they spend a lot of time worrying about
how they will survive in their old age.
Communications are not nearly as established as here. One family we visited had a
sattelite dish, colour TV, cordless phone and a computer. This may have been
because their son has a degree in agriculture and still lives at home. The second
family had colour TV. I never saw a phone. A couple of rural families do not a
country make but it is a bit of an insight.
