Hi Becky,
that Abora did not exist. Has to be a spelling error
somewhere.
Szendro" and Sendro"la'd both existed, in county Borsod,
district Edele'ny.
Liliom would be the 'only' Hungarian variant of the name!:-)

Hello Becky and Joe,
I have been researching records of Szendro, Hungary for some time and have
copies of LDS records listing my grandmother's ancestors as "Lillom-Molnar".
The earliest references to "Lillom-Molnar" in Szendro that I could find
were around 1850. Prior to that, my Molnar ancestors were known only as
"Molnar". Similarly, my grandmother's father and his ancestors were called
"Putina-Toth". Before moving to Szendro (from Szendro-Lad) they were
referred to as "Toth". I suspected that the practice of hyphenating
surnames was peculiar to Szendro. I had not encountered it when researching
my mother's ancestors from Papa, Hungary (Szabo) or Kocs, Hungary
(Lorantffy). I also thought that this practice came about in order to
differentiate individuals with common surnames like Toth and Molnar, even in
relatively small towns such as Szendro. My ancestors seemed to take the
hyphenated names seriously. My great-grandfather's headstone reads "Joszef
Putina-Toth" and I have a letter sent in 1940 to my grandmother's brother
from a "Janos Lillom-Molnar" from Szendro.
I have no idea of the origins of "Lillom" or "Putina" however, and would
welcome any comments. Thank you.
