Hi Joyce,
A few thoughts--first you say:
>He married a woman from
>Sumjac, whose birth record I found in the Evangelical church records there.
However, there was no Evangelical church in Sumjac so the parishoners went
to Murny-Hosszurt, which I assume must be the records you found. Also,
the majority of the population in Sumjac were Greek Catholics, then Roman
Catholics, and finally a very small number of Evangelical (which raises the
question of how sure are you that the woman in question was Evangelical?).
Sumjac had both Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic churches within the
settlement, AND the Greek Catholic parishoners of Jelsava utilized the
services at this church, which was a fair distance from them.
In addition, I have seen several instances now, where a couple were married
in the bride's church, and the offspring baptized in the groom's church, OR
as in my own family, female offspring were baptized in the bride's church,
and male offspring in the groom's church.
Next, keeping in mind there were often periods of time when for whatever
reason, churches were temporarily closed, there were three other Evangelical
churches surrounding Jelsava, any of which might have the marriage records
you are looking for. These are Chisny to the northwest, Nandras to the
southwest, and Jolsvatapolca slightly south east. The LDS FHL has the films
for all three of these so you just might have to look at those.

At this point, my questions would be, if he married a woman from Sumjac,
where was she living at the time this marriage took place? As I said
earlier, Sumjac was a fair distance from Jelsava, so had she travelled or
moved there, or was it your great-grandfather who was in Sumjac? Have you
found any records of her family being in Jelsava which would give you
verification of the family having moved there? Chances are a young woman
would not have moved to the city by herself. And finally, I still am
wondering about the "Evangelical records found in Sumjac."
Like I said, just thoughts--unfortunately, no answers :-(
