I am a little confused as to how the LDS FHL catalog is arranged. I have
been looking for information on Nyarsardo, Saros which is now Raznany or
Razoany, Slovakia. I have found the church records under Nyarsardo which
the catalog also says is also called Narsany or Raznany. However, if you do
a search on the place name Raznany or Razoany, it does not find it. (It
does come up under Narsany, a spelling I haven't found anyplace else.)
There is also a census listing for Nyarsardo with Raznany in parentheses
for the Slovak name but no mention of Narsany.
Both Vel'ky Lipnik and Velky Lipnik come up in a search but Nagy Lipnik
doesn't. It has to be Nagylipnik.
Also, when looking at the 1869 census listing for Saros, I can't see that
the towns are listed in any particular order. I finally went through and
copied all 390+ names into my word processor where I could then do an
alphabetical sort. This gives me the Hungarian names in order and I can do
a word search for the Slovak names.
I also was looking for a listing for Kisszeben. In the catalog it is listed
as Kis-Szeben and cannot be found without the hyphen. However, it is listed
under its Slovak name - Sabinov.
It seems like it is very easy to miss information in the catalog if you
don't have the spelling exactly according to their listing.
