Mike,
What I do, and by the way, I've only done it once, is
I first contacted the person and tell them how we are
connected and asked if I could copy the information
for that particular family line. Then, as I inputted
the info into my family file, I cited it as coming
from researcher X and their URL. Basically saying,
that this is probably the info, but I didn't do the
research so its accuracy is questionable.
Another cousin found me from a message board post. We
exchanged email for a bit until we were sure we were
related and then we snail mailed our info on the
connected families. That too was cited as coming from
her. However, many of her info has been verified &
those cites are included also.
It is up to you as to what you do. But remember,
genealogy is an ongoing process and mistakes do
happen. So you want to be careful of other people's
research and their accuracy.
