My condolences, Sandi,

it used to be that only wreaths were placed around the coffin at wake
and on the grave site, but nowadays they do it like we do here (in the
States): any and all flower arrangements will do.

Also for Catholics a requiem would be arranged on the day of funeral;
and all (close) relatives would carry a mourning band of black velvet on
their left arm for a year ... which is also a fading custom any more.
