<<In reading your messages I realize reading Hungarian would help

Judy, I would be one of the last persons you could offend with your
comments.

Not being familar with the language has never detered me from looking a
films, reading or writing letters.

As you said you learn a few key words and you concentrate on spotting your
family surname. Fortunately, I have no problem with Latin and while
Hungarian stymies me, I can figure out enough German or the geneaology words
not to panic.

You are so right when you speak of the help people on this list give. I
have been the receipient of much help over the years.

I have had words and letters translated from Hungarian to English and have
had the invaluable help of one gentlemen who not only translated a letter I
wrote in English to Hungarian but actually called a family member for me in
Hungary.

For those of you who can utilize your local FHC please do so. Order the
films....as Judy says you will become familiar with the language...enough so
that you will find your family. Someone else will only be too happy to help
you with the language.

The handwriting can be atrocious especially when writte in the tiniest
script you have ever seen.

I spent years with films from Italy, searching for a line in my husbands
family but I found them.

I second everything Judy said.

My hiring a researcher came out of my inability to use our local FHC and the
fact some cousins were in a hurry for answers and willing to help pay for
the cost or a researcher.

I waited almost 20 years to hire one, honestly wish I had done it long ago,
and had just about given up family history until the cousins found me and
well you know the rest of the story.....

Thanks Judy
